Sales Tips For Travel Agents

** Originally posted in 2017, Updated for 2020 **

I just got back from a fantastic trip to Dallas where my hubby, Farukh, did a Facebook Ads training to over 1,000 business owners. He’s never spoken to a room of more than 50 people, so it was a pretty big deal!

He’s considered to be one of the top 10 Facebook Ad gurus in the U.S. and he’s the Travel Expert Marketing Academy Guest Expert that made the Facebook Ad Training for the travel agents who are members of the Academy. Our members truly learn from the best of the best!

If you’re not yet a member of the Academy, come to a live free preview – register now here.

In addition to Farukh’s speaking gig in Dallas, we also have family in Dallas so I got lots of cuddles in with Farukh’s cousin Julie’s son – Ishaan. He’s a sweet pea and you can see pics of little Ishann and behind-the-scenes at the event over on Instagram – come follow me here.

For today’s Travel Expert Insider I’m sharing with you tips for getting clients to book with you. We’ve had a lot of requests from travel agents for sales tips.

Watch the video below on how to sell your services with grace and ease.

Have you been wondering what an effective travel agent sales pitch looks like? What are the highly successful travel agents that book million dollars or more of business each year doing? Most of them are using a simple 6-step sales process and I’m going to share it with you today so you can use it too.

The six steps to an effective Travel Agent Sales Pitch are….

1. Connect with them & find out how they heard about you.

For example, you could say… Hi Jane, thanks for meeting with me today. I’m excited to learn more about you and the type of trip you want to take.” And be sure to ask them how they heard about you.

Keep it simple and straightforward.

2. Ask them to tell you about the type of trip they want to take.

3. Ask them what their budget is and if they say they don’t know, then give them some budget ranges for the destination and type of trip that they told you they want to go on. Here’s an example with fake budgets….

If you’d like this to be a 4-star type trip with coach airfare, then for a budget of $6-$8K you could enjoy your honeymoon in places like the Riviera Maya or Puerto Rico. For a budget of $10K-$15K you could to go Bali or St. Lucia. And for a budget over $18K you could go to Maldives.

Based on how these three steps went, you’ll most likely know if they are an ideal client for you or not. If they are, then continue the consultation with these additional three steps.

4. Get to Know Them Better. Ask more questions such as “Is there anything specific that you want see or do while you’re there?”

5. Give them a few tips and recommendations. Don’t shower them with everything you know, but do woo them with a couple of great tips or recommendations.

6. Ask for the planning fee and/or service agreement. Sign them up as a client!

Those are the 6 steps to a high converting free consultation. Below this video you can download a Travel Agent Sales Tips Guide that gives you lots of good questions to ask, shows you the best way to frame your questions, and bunch of other tips.

And if you’re in the Travel Expert Marketing Academy, in Module 9, we give you a detailed outline of these 6 steps, along with a lot of additional travel agent sales tips and strategies that work beautifully and feel good. You won’t feel like you’re “selling” at all… you’ll feel like you’re sharing, AND if they are an ideal client for you, you’ll land the booking.

Now I’d love to hear from you. Which of these six steps do you feel like you’re already doing a great job of and which if any could you use a little improvement on? Please share in the comments below.

Love & Success,
