In my experience working with hundreds of travel agents like you, I’ve found that all highly successful agents have at least one thing in common. Want to know what it is? If you’re wondering how to become a successful travel agent this one thing is critical to your success… and of course I’m going to share it with you today.
Let’s start by talking about how to become a successful travel agent. the first step in becoming successful is treating your travel agency like a business instead of like a hobby. You have to make the commitment to yourself that you’re going to create a successful travel agency that you love, and you’re not going to let anything get in your way.
There’s a famous quote by Jen Sincero…
“You can have your excuses or you can have success. You can’t have both.”
Once you’ve made the commitment to become a successful travel agent, your next step is to identify the biggest gaps in your business. What are the top one or two things that are missing or that are holding you back from achieving the level of success you desire?
Is it your confidence in your skills as a travel agent? Do you need a bit more training in the destinations you book or to hire a seasoned agent to mentor you so you know that every trip you design is perfect?
Is it your organization, or lack of? Do you need to get systems and processes in place so that you’re on top of everything and being efficient with your time?
Is it your marketing? Are you not getting enough new ideal clients on a consistent basis? Do you need to hone your marketing skills?
Once you’ve identified your top 1 or 2 gaps, you can then take steps to close them.
Now I’d love to hear from you. What are your top 1 or 2 gaps in your travel business? Please share in the comments below.

1) creating a system and following it
2)making locan contacts and not depend on company leads
I’m new to the business my training was through PGCC and Career Quest. I also, planned trips for myself and other family members in the past. I feel the biggest gaps in my business is : Not knowing what cruise ships offer what? There are so many cruise ships out there it’s hard to figure out what ship is best and for what age group. Even though I created a cruise cheat sheet that I keep at my desk. Secondly, I would like to learn more about email marketing so, I can reach clients in the Washington Metropolitan area.
* My confidence in my skills as a travel agent? I need more training in the destinations I book. I’m not sure how or where to find a seasoned agent who can mentor me.
* My marketing skills are not up to par. I need to hone my marketing skills so that I can get more clients.
* I need to get systems in place to improve efficiency.
I need to get automation in place to be able to keep the clients contacted with interesting articles etc every 3 to 4 weeks from the time they deposit all the way up until they make final payment and travel.
My confidence in the destinations /accommodations,the need for seasoned mentor and operational systems that allow me to still do my fulltime job, motherhood and wife duties yet be on top of my travel business in terms of customer service. Financial system is another area and email marketing
My top 2 are:
1. Marketing
2. Organization and systems
Need to find software to help me automate
I want from the time clients deposit to have articles etc set at specific times up until final payment and document delivery as well as a follow up upon their return.
I want to be able to plug in specifics and have it handled.
My biggest gap is marketing as well as time management
I have had some experience booking travel and habe been training with the Suppliers to learn more about their products but the marketing is the biggest gap.
